Fritz-Haber

Our school former was named after "Haber", a German chemical engineer. He got famous for a special chemical procedure to get ammonia out of the nitrogen of the air (the so called "Haber-Bosch-procedure).
In 1918 he got the nobel prize for this invention. Unfortunately this procedure did not only give the base for artificial fertilizer (nitogenous fertilizer) but it was necessary for the production of blasting agent.
Beyond that Haber produced together with other scientists toxical gas that could be used as a weapon during fights. It was first used by German troups during World War I. and meant a terrible death for thousands of people. If the German Empire hadn`t had these inventions they would have had to give up the war after four months because of lacking of ammunition.
Haber knew very well the results of his invention but the project was so important for him that he himself surveyed the production of toxical gas at Bayer Leverkusen. He defended this terrible gas war through all the years.

It is said that 100.000 people died because of toxical gas during World War I.

The Alliies called Haber a war criminal and demanded his extradition.

That`s the reason why teachers and pupils didn't want to have his name for the school any more.

Now, we are the Luise-and-Wilhelm-Teske-School.
